GETTING RIGHTS FOR MUSIC

I want to use some music from some "BIG NAME", WELL KNOWN bands in my low/no budg film. Does anyone have experience with getting rights? Is it very difficult? Hints or Trix?

Yeah, just don't tell anyone.

If your film is good then it will be bought
by a producer -- let him/her sort it out for
now just shoot your movie and make it look as
cool as possible and use any music that works.

That's ballsy! Not a preferred method though. Could lead to a heinous law suit! Some musicians are very cool. Call around. Some of them will let you use it for free or dirt cheap. Just convince them that they're supporting the indpendent film movement and halping out a struggling artist. Maybe they'll remember back when they were in the same position and cut you a break...NEVER KNOW?

PS. I always use Indie bands for my project. I have a friend that cuts me a deal on a recording studio so I pay for them to record and they let me use the songs. It's amazing what indie bands will do to get some exposure....almost as much as indie filmmakers will do!

I personally wouldn't worry about using someone else's work in a low/no budget film.

The only way you can get in trouble is if they catch you.By then,your film probably is a hit and you can arrange to pay royalties after the fact.

If your film doesn't make money and they still catch you they'd probably give you a letter of warning.If thay like the film,they'd give you the right.
